Physical Education

At Farne Primary School, we strive to motivate and inspire children, creating a positive attitude towards health and fitness by nurturing a culture of high engagement and enthusiasm in a safe and supportive environment.

Our curriculum seeks to develop physical literacy and the competence to succeed and excel in a broad range of sports and physical activities. We aim to introduce our children to a wide range of opportunities until they discover the right kind of activity for themselves and experience the benefits that an active lifestyle can provide.

Our pupils will know how to collaborate and cooperate as part of an effective team, and our P.E. lessons provide a plethora of opportunities to engage in competitive sports and activities, learning to compete appropriately, celebrating their own and others sporting achievements and successes.

Ultimately, our goal at Farne is to prepare our children to lead healthy, active lives and to embed a life-long love of sport and exercise.

At Farne, we aim to provide as many opportunities as possible for our children to compete as part of a team, teaching them to work cooperatively with others. We want our children to see that sport can have the power to unite people from all walks of life and across different nations. As part of our P.E. curriculum, we ensure that all key international sporting events are celebrated including the Euros, World Cup and the Olympics. We introduce our children to many inspirational athletes from all around the world and encourage them to see the importance of sport in improving well-being and leading a healthy lifestyle.

We recognise the important role that sport can play in developing a child’s perseverance and self-confidence. Our P.E. curriculum endeavours to support our children in developing transferable skills such as resilience and self-reflection, whilst striving for personal excellence and portraying good sportsmanship. We seek to instil drive and ambition in our children, encouraging them to adopt a positive growth mindset and believe that anything can be achieved with determination.

Our P.E. curriculum intends to develop the children’s personal, social, cognitive and creative skills as well as their understanding of health and fitness. We have our UKS2 sports leaders and Buddies who plan innovative sessions and games for Key Stage 1. As we know that sport can help to embed life-long values, we hope to teach our children how to compete appropriately, understanding fairness and equality of play is just as important as celebrating a win!

Year 5 recently took part in a performing arts dance project 'Liberdade', which means Freedom. Led by professional dance teachers through the Gosforth Civic Theatre, we choreographed our own performance around the theme 'Running'.
