Computing

We strive to expose our children to a high-quality computing education which ensures that the curriculum is both exciting and informative and prepares children for a technological future world.

Our ambitious curriculum enables children to understand how computers and computer systems (such as the internet) work, and how they are designed and programmed. It ensures they know what to do if they have concerns about anything they encounter online, and how to be safe, responsible and respectful when using the internet.

As computing lends itself to many opportunities of enquiry, we facilitate independent learning, enabling children to apply their knowledge and skills to confidently program different devices, testing and debugging with greater competency.

See how our Curriculum Drivers help to guide our Computing Curriculum.

Computing provides us with a unique window into other parts of the world, allows us to connect with others and enables us to have the wealth of the world’s information at our finger tips with immediacy. Children begin to develop their sense of identity in the wider world and how technology can influence this both positively and negatively and begin to recognise and discriminate information effectively to support their development of cultural capital.

At Farne, we pride ourselves on preparing our children for their future, their next steps in education and beyond. We also recognise the fast-moving nature and ever-changing landscape of the world of technology and we intend for our Computing curriculum to nurture creativity in pupils for jobs that haven’t even been created yet. Through our ambitious curriculum, we show our children that their ambitions should be limitless and highlight the endless possibilities in terms of different career pathways.

Computing at Farne Primary allows the children to become logical thinkers and problem solvers by embedding computational thinking skills throughout the curriculum. We understand that computing is now an intrinsic part of all of our lives and our future and with this in mind, we endeavour to ensure that children develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards computing that will stay with them beyond their time in school.
