Curriculum Priorities

At Farne Primary School, we believe that every voice has the power to shape the future and this academic year, we are thrilled to announce that we are beginning our Voice 21 journey! We understand that oracy is not just about speaking and listening – it's a gateway to endless possibilities and by nurturing effective communication skills, we empower our students to explore the depths of their thoughts, connect with others and navigate the world around them with confidence.

Our commitment to high-quality oracy education means that every conversation, discussion, and presentation is carefully crafted to ignite curiosity, deepen understanding and foster collaboration. Through structured activities and purposeful dialogue, students at Farne Primary School embark on a journey of discovery, where every word spoken is an opportunity for growth.

We believe that by instilling the art of effective communication in our students, we are not only preparing them for academic success but also equipping them with the essential skills to thrive in life. Join us in embracing the power of voice, as we inspire a generation of confident speakers, active listeners and fearless thinkers within our school community.

At Farne, we believe that understanding and regulating our emotions is essential for leading a fulfilling life. Through the Zones of Regulation, we empower students of all ages to explore the full spectrum of their feelings and develop effective tools and strategies to support their mental and emotional health.

Sorting Our Emotions Into Four Zones

Feelings can be complex and varied, each with its own intensity and energy level. To simplify the process of understanding and regulating these emotions, the Zones of Regulation categorizes them into four distinct coloured zones: Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red. This visual and linguistic framework provides a common language for discussing and managing emotions, making the process of self-regulation more tangible and accessible for learners and their support networks.

By mastering the Zones of Regulation, our students learn to regulate their emotions to achieve their goals, meet task demands, and promote their overall well-being. Join us on this journey of self-discovery and empowerment at Farne Primary School, where we prioritize the development of resilient, emotionally intelligent learners who are equipped to thrive in all aspects of life.

What are The Zones of Regulation?

At Farne Primary School, fostering inclusivity and empathy is at the heart of everything we do and through our No Outsiders journey, we are committed to nurturing a culture of acceptance and understanding, where every child feels valued and supported. Join us in creating a community where kindness and empathy thrive, and where differences are celebrated as strengths.

From the moment children step into our school, they are immersed in an ethos that celebrates diversity and individuality. We believe that our differences make us unique, and we cherish that. Through engaging picture books in Reception and Years 1 and 2, we introduce characters who reflect a range of backgrounds and experiences, teaching our youngest learners the value of acceptance and friendship: "I am different, and that's okay."

As our students progress through Years 3 to 6, we delve deeper into the complexities of inclusion and belonging. Recognizing the existence of prejudice and discrimination in the world, we equip our students with the language and confidence to challenge such attitudes. Our No Outsiders program empowers children to stand up against prejudice and extend a hand of friendship to all: "You belong here. There are no outsiders."

Through our bespoke program, "World of Possibilities," we strive to ignite curiosity, raise aspirations, and broaden horizons beyond the confines of traditional education. Anchored by our curriculum drivers, "Being Our Best" and "Thinking Outside the Box," this initiative empowers children to explore diverse career pathways, envisioning themselves as architects of their own success. From interactive workshops to inspiring guest speakers, we aim to equip our students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to pursue their passions and make their dreams a reality. Join us on a journey of discovery and ambition, where every child is encouraged to reach for the stars.
