Summer Plan

Dear Parents and Carers

We hope you had a lovely Easter! This termly newsletter will provide you with information about classroom routines and this term’s topic.

Children read in groups in class but we also try to hear individual readers when possible. Please complete the diary with the date, the title of the book, which page you got up to and a comment. The children know that they must put their books in the reading drawer each morning. We monitor home reading every day and children can change their book as soon as they have completed it, as long as this has been recorded in the diary. This term we are focusing on understanding of what we have read, and will be working on finding information in text within guided reading sessions in preparation for Year 2 SATs which will be administered in the week commencing 13th May.

Please provide a suitable PE kit and leave it in school for the week (or the half term). We usually do PE on Monday and Friday. It is ESSENTIAL that your child has a suitable PE kit in school – plain white or blue t-shirt and shorts (without buttons or pockets), sandshoes or trainers. Long hair must be tied back.

Spellings are given out on Friday for a test the following Friday. We are learning common exception words from the DfE list for Year 2. Five minutes on them every night is much better than trying to learn them all on Thursday night! Each child will receive the week’s spellings on a slip on Friday with homework.

Homework will be given out on Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday. This term’s homework will cover maths and grammar concepts required for the SATs tests. If you are unsure, please speak to us.

We have a visit planned on Friday 12th July, to Rising Sun Country Park to take part in a full day Stone Age workshop. Watch out for further details.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to speak to either of us before or preferably after school.

Thank you very much for your support.

Mrs Dixon and Mrs Mustoe.
